Credentials & Standards

Certified to the
Highest Marine Standards

DolFab holds the certifications that vessel owners, surveyors, and classification societies actually require. Not marketing claims — documented, audited credentials that hold up under scrutiny on every project.

American Bureau of Shipping

Certified Facility

ABS is one of the world's leading classification societies — organizations that set structural and safety standards for ships and marine structures. An Lloyds, ABS & USCG certified facility has been audited and approved for welding procedures, welder qualifications, and quality management systems.

Why It Matters

Commercial vessels, charter boats, and superyachts under class require work that meets classification society standards. If your surveyor needs to sign off on structural metalwork, you need an Lloyds, ABS & USCG certified shop.

Quote for ABS-Stamped Work →
Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) — Every welding process has a documented, pre-qualified procedure that meets ABS rules
Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) — Each welder tested and qualified for the processes and positions they perform in production
Quality Management System — Documented procedures for material verification, inspection, and non-conformance handling
ABS Stamp Available — Structural work can be marked with the ABS stamp for classification society inspection

ABYC

American Boat & Yacht Council

Standards Compliance

ABYC publishes voluntary safety standards for boat design, construction, and repair. While not legally mandatory, ABYC compliance is the baseline expectation for marine insurance, surveyor sign-offs, and resale value on recreational vessels.

Key Standards We Follow
H-24 Fuel systems — tanks, lines, vents
H-32 Ventilation — fuel tank compartments
E-11 Electrical systems — bonding, grounding
A-22 Access openings — hatches, doors
Quote for ABYC Work →
Fuel Tanks to ABYC H-24 — Baffled, pressure-tested, properly vented tanks built to the standard insurance surveyors look for
Passes Marine Survey — Your surveyor will check ABYC compliance. DolFab's work passes surveys — that's the baseline, not the selling point
Protects Resale Value — Non-compliant work can reduce a boat's value by the cost of remediation. ABYC-compliant work protects your investment
Documentation Package — Can provide ABYC compliance documentation for insurance, survey, and resale purposes

Do You Actually Need a Certified Shop?

It depends on the project. Not every fabrication job requires a classification society stamp. Here's how to think about it.

Commercial & Charter Vessels

Usually requires ABS or Lloyd's classification work. Your flag state and insurer will specify which classification society applies. Start here before you hire a fabricator.

Private Superyachts

If the yacht is under class (ABS, Lloyd's, MCA), classification work requires a certified facility. Even out-of-class yachts benefit from ABS-quality procedures — they're just not legally required.

Recreational Boats

ABYC compliance matters more than classification certification. Your surveyor will check ABYC standards. Work that doesn't meet them can fail survey, void insurance, or reduce resale value.

Certifications FAQ

Common Questions About Marine Fabrication Credentials

What does Lloyds, ABS & USCG certification mean for marine fabrication?
Lloyds, ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) & USCG certification means a fabrication facility's welding procedures, welder qualifications, and quality management system have been audited and approved by independent classification societies and regulatory bodies. For vessel owners, this means DolFab can stamp work with ABS marks and meet Lloyds and USCG standards — required for classification-society inspected vessels, commercial ships, and many superyacht programs where the surveyor needs to verify structural metalwork meets recognized standards.
Does ABYC compliance matter for recreational boats?
ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) standards are voluntary in most jurisdictions, but they matter enormously in practice. Marine surveyors use ABYC standards as the benchmark for inspecting boats. Insurance underwriters expect ABYC-compliant work. A boat with non-compliant fuel tanks, exhaust systems, or electrical work can fail survey, be uninsured, or be worth less at resale. DolFab's work is built to ABYC standards — H-24 for fuel systems, H-32 for ventilation, E-11 for electrical — as a baseline on every project.
What welder qualifications does DolFab hold?
DolFab welders hold qualifications under ASME Section IX for pressure vessel and pipe welding, plus AWS D1.1 (structural steel) and D1.2 (structural aluminum) qualifications. We maintain weld procedure specifications (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder performance qualifications (WPQ) for all processes. If your surveyor or classification society needs documentation, we have it — and we can produce it in the format required.
Do I need a certified shop for my project?
If your project is for a commercial vessel, charter boat, or superyacht under class, the answer is usually yes — the classification society (ABS, Lloyd's, etc.) will require work to be performed at an approved facility or by approved welders. For private recreational boats, certification isn't legally required, but your marine surveyor will expect ABYC-compliant work, and ABYC compliance provides real protection for you as the owner. Call us at 954-941-5093 to discuss whether your project needs a certified shop.
How do I verify a fabrication shop's certifications?
For Lloyds, ABS & USCG certification, you can verify ABS credentials directly through the ABS website (eagle.org) by searching the facility name. Ask the shop for their current Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) records and Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS). Legitimate certified shops have these documents ready to share — if a shop hesitates, that's a red flag. DolFab's credentials are documented and available on request.
What's the difference between ABS and ABYC?
ABS is a classification society that certifies vessels and facilities. ABYC is a standards organization that publishes best-practice guidelines for boat design and construction. Think of ABS as a regulator (certification is required for class) and ABYC as a professional body (compliance is the professional standard). Many vessels need both — Lloyds, ABS & USCG certification for classification work and ABYC compliance for survey and insurance.
