Precision metal doors for electric vehicle fleet
Project Overview
Custom fabricated metal doors for a fleet of GEM electric vehicles. This project showcased DolFab's ability to deliver precision metalwork beyond the marine industry — same welding expertise, same quality standards, applied to automotive.
The Challenge
GEM electric cars have lightweight frames that can't handle heavy aftermarket modifications. The doors needed to be strong enough for security and weather protection while staying light enough to not stress the vehicle's hinges, latches, or electric drive system.
The Solution
DolFab designed lightweight aluminum doors with internal stiffeners for rigidity without bulk. Each door was fabricated from sheet aluminum, TIG-welded, and finished with a clean bead that required minimal post-weld finishing. Custom hinges and latches were integrated into the design. The doors bolt on to the existing GEM frame without modification.
