Superyacht "Wheels"
Custom brightwork and structural components
Project Overview
Custom stainless steel and aluminum metalwork fabricated for the superyacht "Wheels." This project combined structural fabrication with high-polish brightwork — where engineering meets aesthetics on a vessel where every detail is scrutinized.
The Challenge
Superyacht brightwork must be structurally sound while achieving a mirror-polish finish that holds up in salt air. The "Wheels" project required both heavy structural components and delicate polished pieces — two very different fabrication approaches on the same vessel.
The Solution
DolFab separated the work into structural and cosmetic tracks. Heavy structural components were fabricated first from marine aluminum and stainless, with full-penetration welds sized for load. Brightwork pieces were fabricated from 316L stainless, with welds progressively ground from 80-grit through 2000-grit before final mirror polish. Both tracks met survey requirements — the structural held, and the brightwork gleamed.
