3D Scanning &
Printing

In-house 3D scanner and 3D printer for metal fabrication in Fort Lauderdale. Scan a worn part, model it in CAD, and cut it on the waterjet — without original drawings. We use 3D technology to solve problems faster and get complex custom jobs done right the first time.

How We Use 3D Technology

  • In-house 3D scanner — handheld 3D scanning of parts, fittings, hull surfaces, and complex geometry
  • 3D printing for prototypes — plastic prints of planned metal parts to verify fit before cutting aluminum or stainless
  • Reverse engineering worn parts — scan a corroded or broken fitting to capture its geometry and fabricate an exact replacement in metal
  • Scan-to-CAD workflow — scan data converted to parametric CAD models for modification, waterjet cutting, or CNC machining
  • Template creation for complex curves — scan compound-curved hull surfaces and generate accurate flat patterns for shaped metal panels
  • Accelerates custom fabrication — 3D scanning cuts layout time from days to hours on complex one-off jobs — faster delivery, fewer remakes

Why DolFab for 3D Services

Scan-to-Metal Under One Roof
Scan the part, model it, cut it on the waterjet, weld it — all in-house. No data hand-off between vendors.
Fewer Remakes
A plastic prototype takes an hour to print. Verifying fit before cutting metal saves materials, time, and cost on complex parts.
Lloyds, ABS & USCG, Certified Final Product
3D scanning is the input method; the metal output still goes through our Lloyds, ABS & USCG certified welding process. See our credentials →
45+ Years of Fabrication Context
Technology backed by deep marine fabrication experience — we know when a scan says one thing but the installation requires another.

3D Scanning & Printing FAQ

What can you do with 3D scanning?

Our 3D scanner captures exact geometry of worn, broken, or discontinued parts — even complex compound curves on hull surfaces. That scan data becomes a CAD model for waterjet cutting, CNC machining, or custom fabrication. No original drawings needed.

What materials can you 3D print for?

We print in PLA and PETG plastic for prototype fit-checking. For marine applications, the plastic print verifies geometry before we cut the final part in aluminum or stainless steel on the waterjet.

How accurate is 3D scanning for marine fabrication?

Our scanner captures geometry to within 0.1mm accuracy — sufficient for waterjet cutting template fabrication and most structural replacements. For precision machined surfaces, we use the scan as a starting point for manual surfacing or CNC finishing.

Can you reverse-engineer a worn or broken part from an existing sample?

Yes. Bring us the worn part, we scan it, model it in CAD, and cut a replacement on the waterjet — all under one roof. This is one of our fastest-turnaround services for worn or discontinued marine hardware.
